Pearline and I attended another Coffee and Cars event in OKC. Plus, an announcement…

We got out of the house right at 6 AM, with a light mist falling. I could see dawn breaking to the east with no clouds, so I didn’t expect much rain to fall. I had the tonneau top on, having left the convertible top in the garage. By the time we drove 5 miles on I-40, there was no more precipitation.

Arrived at 7 A.M., following a black Miata into the lot. I searched quickly for other LBCs in the lot and finding none, I parked at the edge, next to the Miata. The owner of said vehicle was very excited to see an MGB and he was fully aware of the design lineage between our vehicles.

I found a coffee truck and a breakfast burrito in short order and then began wiping down the car. I’d spent the day prior shining up, so I didn’t need to do much that morning. Exchanged stories with the Miata owner and his son for a while and then made a circuit to see other cars before the crowds arrived.

My wife and son arrived with the crowds and stayed about an hour. We walked around again and looked at the cars. There were the usual assortment of square body pickups, Corvettes, and Belairs in various stages of restoration (or lack thereof). There were plenty of “modern muscle cars” (Chargers, Challengers, and Mustangs). I didn’t see many older restored vehicles, prior to 1950.

The rather amusing one was 2 CyberTrucks were parked right at the place with the Coffee and Cars booth was set up. Even more amusing was they had both wrapped their shiny boat anchors in vinyl, to hide the lightweight stainless steel exteriors. Most car owners love to talk about their vehicles, but these two geniuses just stared at people walking by, daring someone to say something combative. I’m surprised they didn’t have on armbands and red hats.

The winery and facilities were nice. We bought a couple bottles of their wine. From the samples, it’s nothing special other than it’s Made in Oklahoma. It will go fine with fresh fruit on the back porch.

Angie and Elijah both had other activities that morning and left by 10:30 AM. The temps were rising and was nearly 90F (32C), so I departed the place about 10:45. On the way home, I spotted a man selling Rush Springs watermelons on the side of the road. I chatted with him a bit and bought 2 big melons to bring home. He was amused that they both (just barely) fit behind the seats.

The disappointing aspect to the event was that I was the only British car that I saw all day. No Rovers, Jags, or other MGs. Not even a Triumph, which is odd because OKC has a very active Triumph group and this event was on their FB calendar. There was some complaining on Facebook that Coffee and Cars was a paid event this month, so maybe they decided to skip this month. To be honest, I’ll probably pass on Coffee & Cars in OKC for another year or two.

Brits in the Ozarks

On the other hand, I’m happy to share that Pearline and I will be attending the Brits in the Ozarks event in September. The Minister of Finances gave her blessing, despite the fact that she’ll be working that week. I suspect she’d rather sit at home in cool temps, rather than being in a car with no A/C for 3 days.

Hope to see you there!
